Call for papers: 9th MARE People and the Sea Conference

The 9th MARE People & the Sea Conference will take place in Amsterdam on 5-7 July 2017 under the topicDealing with Maritime Mobilities”. This conference will explore the nature of maritime mobilities and the ways climate and environmental change, economic development and maritime activities are affecting their direction and volume. UNGA: World Tuna Day proclaimed

The UN General Assembly proclaimed the 2 May as the “World Tuna Day”, spotlighting the vital socioeconomic importance of the widely consumed fish to peoples around the globe. The Assembly then adopted another resolution by consensus, titled “Sustainable fisheries, including through the 1995 Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10 December 1982 relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks, and related instruments” (document A/71/L.24). Conference: European Shipping Week

The European Shipping Week will take place in Brussels from 27 February to 3 March 2017. This event is intended to be a platform where policy-makers from the main EU institutions will meet and engage with European shipowners and other stakeholders from the shipping sector. It is an initiative of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations and is run by a Steering Group made up of Europe’s main shipping organizations as well as the European Commission and Shipping Innovation. The program of the main Conference entitled “European Shipping Policy: Delivering Global Competitiveness, Quality and Sustainability” can be found here and the calendar of the remaining events is here.
