The Shanghai Jiao Tong University is organizing and hosting a Summer Seminar of Theory and Practice of Marine Law. The event occurs at Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in China, from July 17^th to July 30^th, 2016. The registration deadline is June 17. More information is available here.

The Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet on Migrants’ Rights in the Mediterranean is organizing a summer school on “Open Sea on Migrations, Sea Border Control and Human Rights”. The event aims to combine scientific and practical knowledge on crucial topics of international law of the sea, migration and human rights law. This even is set to happen on 6 – 13 June 2016 in Italy at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and at the “Vesuvian Institute” campus in Castellammare di Stabia (Naples, Italy). The tenth session of the IFLOS Summer Academy at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea will be held in July 24-August 19, 2016. The deadline to submit applications is April 30, 2016. The IFLOS Summer Academy general information booklet is available here.

The twenty-first session of the Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy will be held 3 -22 July, 2016. The deadline to submit applications is 1 April 2016.  The contribution of the Rhodes Academy to capacity building in the law of the sea was recently recognized by the UN General Assembly in Res. A/70/L.22, para. 20.

The University of A Coruña will host a training school entitled, Law of the Sea and Development, from 1-3rd July 2015, at the NAUTIC AULA of the University of A Coruña, Spain. The application deadline is the 12th June and a number of scholarships are available under the MARSAFENET COST Action.

The summer school on European Union and the Law of the Sea (EULoS) will be held for three consecutive years, alternatively, in Italy and Germany. The venue for 2015 will be the town of Imperia, where the event will take place from 31 August – 11 September 2015. Additional information, including an outline programme, can be found at http://eu-los.eu.

The South China Sea Institute, Xiamen University, and the Centre for Polar and Deep Ocean Development, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, are organizing the 10th session of the Marco Polo — Zheng He Academy of International Oceans Law and Policy. MARSAFENET is organising a training school that will address specific subjects mainly relating to maritime delimitation and environmental protection. Attention will be paid to the settlement of maritime disputes including ITLOS and ICJ jurisprudence and arbitration procedures. It happens at Sarajevo on 5-7 May 2015 and the submission deadline is 30 March 2015. The call can be found here.

The K.G. Jebsen Centre for the Law of the Sea (JCLOS) is arranging a PhD student summer course entitled ‘methodology and legal science within the international Law of the sea’. It will be held at Sommarøya (Summer Island), Norway, from the 4 – 5 June 2015.

The University of the Faroe Islands is organizing The Summer Academy on the Continental Shelf (SACS). This event will be held from 21 to 28 June 2014 and it is anticipated to take place every summer the next several years. The purpose of SACS is to disseminate scientific and legal knowledge relating to the regime of the continental shelf, in particular the area beyond 200 nautical miles. For this purpose, SACS will confer particular focus on the intricate legal and technical conditions governing the entitlement to and establishment of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles, and on the delimitation of overlapping entitlements to such areas. Emphasis will therefore be given to Articles 76 and 83 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and Annex II thereto. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2014.
